Helping people, communities and organisations across Birmingham become more sustainable.
About ecobirmingham
ecobirmingham helps create a sustainable city by inspiring and supporting communities and organisations across Birmingham to take positive action toward a low-carbon and sustainable lifestyle. The charity was created in 2009 as Northfield Ecocentre and became an independent charity in July 2018, allowing it to grow its work across the city. Its work is inspired by Quaker values of equality and justice, peace, truth and integrity, simplicity and sustainability. Through its projects, ecobirmingham gives people the tools to take positive action and help others do the same. It looks at sustainable living holistically, with core areas of work covering transport, food, education, waste, water, arts engagement and energy. It also contributes to debate and engages in projects relevant to people living in the city, including air pollution, plastic waste, food poverty and fuel poverty, through grassroots activities, events and programmes that engage, educate and stimulate communities and volunteers, as well as supporting, advising, challenging and training organisations and influencing wider social change through dissemination, partnerships, research and internships.
Mission and direction
ecobirmingham is a community environmental charity helping people and organisations create a sustainable, low-carbon city through practical projects, education, advocacy and collaboration. The organisation supports positive climate and wellbeing action across communities by delivering grassroots activities, events, training and partnerships that reduce environmental impact and inspire lasting social change.
