The Coal Authority works to protect the public and the environment in the mining areas of Great Britain, now and for future generations. Sponsored by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, we are responsible for managing the effects of past coal mining, providing mining information and property search services, licensing coal mining operations in Britain and providing a 24 hour emergency service for public safety hazards. We are committed to structured research and development; protecting the environment through genuine innovation in mine water and gas treatment schemes.
