About The Roof of Africa (SCIO)

The Roof of Africa (registered charity SCO47518) provides education and family support to the poorest families in the rural village of Sonu, which is located at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. The charity was founded by Genuine Mwasha, who grew up in Tanzania spending a lot of his childhood on the streets and in a orphanage. He now wants to help ensure no other children have to go through what he did. We may be a small charity but we have big ambitions! In just four years we have already moved from a rented building to our owned land, where 5 classrooms have been built with a further four planned. Due to the levels of poverty, the majority of the families cannot provide for themselves and so as well as feeding the children while at school, the charity also provides family support where possible. By educating this generation, we hope to stop the cycle of poverty. Every penny receives by the public is spent on running the school and supporting the families.
