Requirements

  • 3–7 years of professional experience in media relations public relations journalism or a press office
  • Experience speaking with reporters on the record
  • Strong news judgment and instincts for press work
  • Ability to assess sensitive high-stakes situations and provide thoughtful counsel under pressure
  • Clear fast writing with the ability to tailor tone for different audiences
  • Ability to build productive relationships with journalists researchers leaders and program staff
  • Comfort working calmly on deadline in rapid-response environments
  • Genuine curiosity about the organization’s focus areas and mission

Nice to have

Day to day

  • Serve as an on-record and on-background spokesperson representing the organization accurately and credibly
  • Pitch and place stories while building strong relationships with journalists across relevant beats
  • Manage incoming press inquiries and prepare staff with briefing documents talking points and media training
  • Monitor coverage assess reputational risk and support rapid thoughtful responses to media attention
  • Collaborate with the broader communications team on newsletters internal communications social media and process improvements
