Who you are

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or equivalent
  • Three years’ experience in web publishing, producing, writing and managing online content
  • Knowledge of HTML and experience with content management systems
  • Social media savvy skillset
  • Solid writing and editing skills
  • Sharp eye for proofreading and design
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time-management skills
  • Ability to be a team player while working autonomously
  • Strong skills in decision-making, news judgment, problem-solving, project management, working on deadline, and interpersonal interaction
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively
  • Excellent computer skills and experience using CMS, e.g., Drupal
  • Excellent news judgment and a fine-tuned sensibility of when and where to take risks
  • Comprehensive understanding of editorial best practices, including SEO
  • Knowledge of email marketing tools and techniques

What the job involves

  • Creates, develops and manages content for the magazine’s web and social media presence. This includes working with content management software and managing vendor relationships.
  • Works closely with Editor to manage and prioritize content creation. Ensures that content always supports brand image, goals and objectives.
  • Helps develop a comprehensive social media strategy for the magazine. Implements SEO practices for all digital content. Continuously identifies new ways to develop, implement and support social content, marketing strategies and programs.
  • Acquires art and photography for digital use. Maintains digital photo, audio, and video library in consultation with art director. Responds as necessary to all comments and questions of online social communications.
  • Writes, edits and works with the editors to provide editorial content to the print magazine.
  • Designs and executes monthly bulk email broadcasts, employing approved tools and protocols.
  • Works with the developers to assess any technical challenges in displaying the content. Monitors website for quality control, correcting links, typos, formatting errors and removing out-of-date content.
  • Monitors and reports on website traffic and activity to assist in formulating and evaluating web strategy and priorities. Stays abreast of digital communications best practices, including security issues. Identifies realistic opportunities for improvement for the magazine.
