What the job involves

• The Financial Controller will play a key role in managing and overseeing the financial operations of Polar Insight. This position requires a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and a hands-on approach to handle the day-to-day financial tasks and support the overall financial health of the company. As a remote, part-time role, the ideal candidate will be self-motivated organised and capable of working independently.
• Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements including balance sheets income statements and cash flow statements. Ensure compliance with UK accounting standards and regulations.
• Develop manage and oversee the company’s budget. Provide financial forecasts and projections to guide strategic planning and decision-making.
• Oversee day-to-day accounting functions including accounts payable accounts receivable payroll and general ledger maintenance. Implement and maintain accounting policies and procedures.
• Monitor cash flow to ensure the company can meet its financial obligations. Manage banking relationships and optimise the use of available cash.
• Analyse financial data to identify trends variances and opportunities for cost reduction or revenue enhancement. Provide insights and recommendations based on financial analysis to support business decisions.
• Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial data. Conduct periodic audits to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
• Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax returns and compliance with UK tax regulations. Manage relationships with external tax advisors and auditors.
• Support the development and execution of the company’s financial strategy. Provide financial insights and guidance to the management team.
• Stay informed about changes in financial regulations and ensure the company’s practices are compliant. Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits and other regulatory reviews.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff if applicable. Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment within the finance team.
• Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial systems and software specifically Xero and ideally Zoho One. Continuously improve financial processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
