Requirements

  • Ability to hike several miles per day over uneven and rugged terrain carrying field gear
  • Comfort working outdoors for full days across a multi-week field season
  • Strong attention to detail and reliability in data recording
  • Ability to work well as part of a two-person field team
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to field sites across Maine
  • Comfortable using or learning GPS units and tablet-based data collection apps

Day to day

  • Navigate to and establish forest inventory plots using GPS and maps across varied terrain and forest types in Maine.
  • Measure and record forest mensuration data such as tree species, DBH, height, crown class, and health with careful accuracy.
  • Operate field equipment and tablet-based apps while working safely and effectively as part of a two-person crew in remote outdoor conditions.
