SummaryThe Manager, Hybrid Cloud Engineering leads the engineering and operational lifecycle of enterprise hybrid cloud infrastructure spanning Microsoft Azure, private cloud, virtualization, Linux platforms, storage, backup, automation and observability. This leader is accountable for resilient, secure, cost-effective infrastructure services that support critical business applications while enabling modernization through automation, standardization and infrastructure as code. This role does not own DevOps, application platform engineering, or CI/CD product delivery, but partners closely with those teams to provide reliable infrastructure patterns and operational guardrails.
About the TeamThe Hybrid Cloud team manages enterprise infrastructure services across Azure, VMware, Nutanix, Linux, server hardware, storage, backup and disaster recovery capabilities. The team supports both cloud and private cloud workloads, partners with Identity, Cybersecurity, Network, Application, SAP and Database teams, and is responsible for operational excellence across availability, lifecycle management, monitoring, capacity, performance, cost and recoverability.
About the RoleSeeking an experienced infrastructure leader who can manage a highly skilled engineering team, drive hybrid cloud modernization, and maintain strong operational discipline across business-critical environments. The ideal candidate combines hands-on technical depth with people leadership, vendor management, financial ownership and the ability to communicate infrastructure strategy in business terms.
Key Responsibilities•Lead, coach and develop a distributed team of senior infrastructure engineers responsible for hybrid cloud engineering and operations.•Own engineering and operational accountability for Azure infrastructure, private cloud, virtualization platforms, Linux server infrastructure, storage, backup and related infrastructure services.•Drive infrastructure modernization through automation, standardization, repeatable patterns and infrastructure as code, including Terraform where appropriate.•Maintain operational excellence across availability, capacity, performance, monitoring, incident response, lifecycle management and disaster recovery readiness.•Support strategic migration and modernization efforts from legacy on-premises infrastructure to Azure and modern private cloud platforms where technically and financially justified.•Partner with Cybersecurity to ensure infrastructure services align to security, compliance, vulnerability management and least-privilege operating practices.•Partner with Finance, Procurement and vendors to manage budget, renewals, licensing, hardware lifecycle, cloud consumption and cost optimization opportunities.•Establish practical operating metrics, KPIs and service health reporting for infrastructure reliability, cost, risk, lifecycle and delivery performance.•Lead prioritization across production support, project delivery, technical debt reduction, lifecycle remediation and business-driven infrastructure requests.•Guide root cause analysis, post-incident reviews and corrective action planning for major infrastructure incidents.•Ensure infrastructure designs are supportable, observable, recoverable, secure and aligned with enterprise architecture and operational standards.•Represent Hybrid Cloud Engineering in cross-functional planning, change governance, budget discussions and executive-level infrastructure updates.
Required Skills and Experience•Proven people leadership experience managing high-performing infrastructure engineers, including prioritization, coaching, performance management and career development.•Strong hands-on background in enterprise infrastructure engineering or operations across hybrid cloud and private cloud environments.•Deep working knowledge of Microsoft Azure infrastructure, including compute, storage, networking, identity integration, monitoring, governance and cost management concepts.•Experience managing virtualization or hyperconverged infrastructure such as VMware vSphere, Nutanix AHV, VxRail, or comparable private cloud platforms.•Experience operating Linux platforms at enterprise scale, preferably including Red Hat Enterprise Linux.•Working knowledge of enterprise storage, backup, disaster recovery and business continuity patterns.•Strong infrastructure as code and automation knowledge, including Terraform, PowerShell, Python, shell scripting, Ansible, ARM or Bicep.•Experience with observability and monitoring platforms such as SCOM, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Sentinel, Splunk, Datadog, Dynatrace, or comparable tools.•Strong understanding of information security fundamentals, including vulnerability remediation, privileged access, segmentation, secure administration and audit readiness.•Ability to manage vendors, contracts, renewals, licensing, hardware lifecycle and financial planning for infrastructure services.•Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical risk, cost and service impact into clear business language.•Ability to work across business, application, database, cybersecurity and operations teams to resolve complex issues and deliver infrastructure outcomes.•Willingness to support occasional early, late, or off-hours work for major incidents, maintenance windows, disaster recovery activities, or critical business events.
Preferred Qualifications•Experience with Dell, HPE, IBM Power, Nutanix, VMware, Dell EMC or IBM storage technologies.•Experience supporting infrastructure for critical enterprise workloads such as SAP, Oracle, DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, middleware, ecommerce, warehouse, distribution, or manufacturing systems.•Experience with Azure reservations, savings plans, tagging standards, cost allocation, FinOps practices and consumption forecasting.•Experience building operational dashboards, KPI reporting, capacity plans and executive-ready infrastructure status updates.•Familiarity with DNS, public cloud connectivity, load balancing, certificate lifecycle, private endpoint patterns and hybrid network dependencies.•Experience with backup and recovery platforms such as Rubrik, including restore readiness, ransomware recovery principles and disaster recovery testing.•Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Leadership Expectations•Operate as an accountable service owner for hybrid cloud infrastructure, not only as a task manager.•Use data, service metrics and financial indicators to support recommendations and prioritization decisions.•Create clarity for engineers by defining standards, ownership boundaries, escalation paths and expected outcomes.•Build strong relationships with business partners while maintaining appropriate engineering discipline and operational controls.•Balance modernization, reliability, security, cost and supportability when making platform decisions.
Experience Level•3 or more years of management experience leading engineers, infrastructure programs, vendors and budgets.•8 or more years of experience in IT infrastructure, cloud infrastructure, systems engineering, architecture, consulting, or infrastructure operations.•Demonstrated experience supporting production environments with strong change, incident, problem and lifecycle management practices.
Success Measures•Improved infrastructure reliability, recoverability and operational visibility.•Reduced lifecycle risk across servers, hypervisors, storage, cloud services and supporting infrastructure.•Measurable progress on automation, standardization and infrastructure as code adoption.•Stronger cost governance across cloud consumption, licensing, renewals and hardware lifecycle planning.•Clearer service ownership, cross-team engagement and executive-level reporting for hybrid cloud infrastructure.
