Who you are

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science Engineering or related field or equivalent practical experience
• 5+ years of professional experience in software development with an emphasis on distributed systems
• Familiar with media processing API for MacOS (AVFoundation/VideoToolBox) and Windows (Microsoft Media Foundation)
• Knowledge of video/audio coding concepts: codecs (H264/H265 AAC) containers (TS MP4)
• Fluent in C++17 or newer: multithreading real-time systems ASIO
• Proficiency with ffmpeg/ffprobe: transcode to different resolutions change formats apply time offsets apply filters inspect media files
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS Azure GCP) and container orchestration (Docker Kubernetes)
• Deep understanding of backend technologies and service architectures
• Solid understanding of database technologies and data modeling
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex issues in a distributed environment
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams

• Build server-side and client-side infrastructure for engineering teams to develop video messaging products
• Design and implement media features to delight users and differentiate Loom’s products
• Uphold a high standard of engineering excellence to directly impact product experience and Loom’s brand perception
• Diagnose and improve the end-to-end video experience quality
• Optimize media pipelines for performance across all platforms
• Demonstrate strong ownership and influence over the team's roadmap
