Who you are

  • Minimum 8+ years of experience
  • Create ambitious, unique features that utilize advanced metrics
  • Highly regarded in tactics & data community
  • Articles almost always in Top Nine selection of daily articles
  • Work effectively and communicate with colleagues and editors
  • Meet deadlines set by editors
  • Experience in data analysis and data visualization
  • Utilize data to drive insights related to football questions
  • Experience with football specific datasets
  • Proficiency in R and/or Python for data analysis and visualization
  • Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of league's players and playing styles
  • React quickly and authoritatively to league news and developments



What the job involves

  • Cultivate and maintain strong sources to break, confirm, advance and analyze national news
  • At least two 1k word articles a week plus help on live pieces/data requests/collaborative projects as required
  • Take readers behind-the-scenes to unearth critical details and explain what really happened around key decisions and major issues
  • Deliver authoritative, must-read stories that drive the national conversation in football
  • Be meticulous and thorough when sourcing stories
  • Deliver high-level, in-the-moment stories when news dictates
  • Contribute on multiple platforms including podcasts, social media, headlines and short form
  • Tell rich, ambitious features through deep reporting and access to get beyond superficial storylines
  • Balance mid- and long-term projects while delivering stories and news analysis
  • Utilize a creative approach to story ideation and formats
  • Understand the sport's advanced metrics and how to apply them to written work
  • Connect with the audience constructively by interacting with comments sections
  • Use internal metrics to provide what subscribers desire
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to translate complex data into actionable insights through impactful data visualization
  • Communicate data insights effectively in written or audio format to different audiences
