Remote Staff Software Engineer - Infrastructure Platform Job in London, UK Samsara

Who you are

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent practical experience
• 10+ years of experience on infrastructure-focused teams
• Mastery of programming/coding practices
• Expertise working with web services at massive scale deployed on Cloud providers such as AWS or Azure
• Expert in writing high-quality, performant and maintainable code in a modern programming language
• Know your way around a UNIX shell and a Linux operating system

Desirables

• 12+ years of relevant industry experience in software development
• Experience working with processes that scale well for a team of 500+ engineers
• Experience working at scale, transforming engineering infrastructure to support 10x growth in customer size and volume, raising the bar for reliability and performance
• Experience reshaping infrastructure, and influencing a company’s infrastructure and platform strategy
• Enjoys leading and mentoring engineers to think about systems their life cycles, edge cases, and failure modes
• Experience enabling cross-functional collaboration between product, finance, and engineers with different focuses

What the job involves

• Lead organization-wide projects and develop tools that improve how we deploy, orchestrate, scale, and monitor hundreds of microservices and databases
• Architect and coordinate changes to essential production systems, e.g., the highly available real-time streaming of data from millions of connected devices
• Identify and guide prioritization of opportunities for improvement to our infrastructure
• Contribute ideas and feedback that help teams improve processes and architecture
• Increase visibility and knowledge of operational best practices to raise the bar across the company
• Act as a multiplier for the team, elevating the impact and output of every team member
• Influence the vision and roadmap for infrastructure to support our rapid growth
• Represent Samsara in external-facing forums by writing on our engineering blog, speaking at conferences, and collaborating with vendors
• Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles as we scale globally
