Who you are

  • Cares deeply about functional written communication.
  • Has a record of producing excellent documentation or programming skills combined with documentation production.
  • Experience in software development contexts, familiar with Linux, command line usage, application deployment, system operations, infrastructure management, Git, documentation markup languages.
  • Holds a BSc/BA degree or equivalent.
  • Able to travel up to twice a year for events.
  • Has excellent written and verbal communication skills.

What the job involves

  • Create, maintain, and improve software documentation.
  • Work with engineering team members to help them make effective documentation contributions.
  • Influence the development of the product as an expert user with important opinions on its function and design.
  • Engage with user communities to ensure documentation meets their needs.
  • Encourage community engagement in and contribution to documentation.
  • Help standardize content structure, presentation, style, and language across products.
  • Collaborate with peers to advance documentation standards at Canonical.
  • Challenge and advance documentation understanding and best practices.
