Who you are

  • Being a technical writer with a programmer's mindset or a programmer with a passion for producing excellent documentation
  • Having a record of community engagement in open-source software, documentation, research, or related fields
  • Demonstrating technical curiosity and enthusiasm for software technology challenges
  • Possessing excellent written and verbal communication skills along with familiarity with Linux, command line operations, Git, and documentation markup languages
  • Holding a BSc/BA degree or equivalent and being willing to travel twice a year for up to two weeks for events

What the job involves

  • Joining an engineering team to lead documentation efforts for a specific Canonical product area, creating, maintaining, and improving technical documentation with a focus on user experience and long-term project success
  • Collaborating with various team members to develop clear documentation for complex technical topics and establish documentation as a first-class engineering discipline
  • Contributing to a disciplined team to challenge and advance documentation understanding and best practices
