Wilts & Berks Canal Trust is a charitable organisation working to preserve, conserve and improve the route of the Wilts & Berks canal.

WBCT is committed to restoring the full length of this historic canal; from Wiltshire through Swindon and into Oxfordshire. The aim is to create a sustainable and bio-diverse blue and green corridor that, as it winds through our region, provides a host of attractive life style and economic benefits to our communities and to visitors, as well as providing a safe and welcoming habitat for wildlife.

The canal is part of our heritage, but our waterway can also, today, add so much to our busy and crowded 21st century lives.

Restoring all 72 miles of the Wilts & Berks canal to create a tranquil public waterside park

Lead the finance team and its activities, ensuring all Trust procedures and good accounting practice are followed. You will help us achieve the full restoration of the Wilts & Berks canal.

What are we looking for?

Strong leadership and understanding of the need for consistent management processes Chartered accountant Ability to manage diverse teams and liaise with internal stakeholder groups Ability to develop structure, recruit and motivate Personal computing facilities including reliable internet access

What will you be doing?

oversight of the finance team and its activities, ensuring all Trust procedures and good accounting practice are followed Ensure monthly and annual accounts are prepared and authorised Ensure compliance with relevant Government and Charity Commission requirements Increase the capacity of the Finance Team as required and develop the internal processes Together with the Treasurer, ensure appropriate payments are authorised and complete Ensure the Trust’s cash position is monitored and protected (You will not be responsible for the detailed production of the accounts as this is completed by the Head of Accounts) Work with the CEO, Trustees and Directors to help define and create an effective finance function to deliver the Trust’s restoration plans Provide progress reports to the CEO and Leadership Team Chair the Finance Team Meetings Development of individual tasks with the Head of Accounts and the team Motivation of the volunteer team Working with the HR Manager to interview and ensure induction of new finance team members Preparation of the annual budget
