Requirements
- At least five years managing database or storage teams
- Timezone between GMT-1 and GMT+3
- Willing to travel to Africa once per year for about 6 days
- Demonstrable people management experience including coaching performance evaluation mentorship and career development
- Relevant project management experience including prioritisation schedules deadlines and cross-team communication
- Experience managing process design such as on call incident response postmortems load testing and capacity planning
- Hiring experience including staffing plans interview loops candidate evaluation and offer-stage closing
- Proven track record running mission-critical databases in production including replication backups migrations HA and DR
- Experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration
- Experience working in cloud or data center infrastructure

Day to day
- Lead the Database Reliability team to keep Wave’s databases highly available and able to scale with rapid user growth
- Support engineers in architecting maintaining and evolving reliable high-performance database technologies across multiple environments
- Mentor coach and grow a globally distributed team while improving incident response postmortems capacity planning monitoring cost optimisation and performance tuning
- Collaborate with infrastructure product and security teams on platform database initiatives and hire as the team expands
