Role


Who you are

  • Liaise with other functional/departmental managers to understand all necessary aspects and needs of design personnel development
  • Ensure activities integrate with organisational requirements for quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, environmental policies and general duty of care
  • Manage and develop direct reporting staff
  • Manage and control departmental expenditure within agreed budgets
  • Develop and implement strategies and processes designed to provide efficient and effective service
  • Direct and integrate the activities of multiple design projects ensuring efforts are cohesive, consistent in supporting company mission, goals and strategic plan
  • Develop and establish policies, strategies, and operating objectives
  • Participate in and oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of individual design objectives and short and long range plans
  • Develop tracking and evaluation programs to assist in the accomplishment of established design goals and objectives
  • Support the review and approval process of all engineering deliverables as required

  • Extensive design experience across numerous industries
  • Excellent supervisory, man management skills and leadership qualities
  • Ability to manage a multi-disciplined team of engineers and support staff
  • Proficient in identifying resources requirements and management of same
  • Proficient in identifying and conceptualising innovative engineering solutions
  • Ability to coach and mentor other members of the team



What the job involves

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate all design activities to ensure that goals of the design department are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters
  • Support the review and approval process of engineering and design deliverables as required
  • Establish work plans and staffing for each design project and arrange for the assignment of design personnel
  • Confer with design staff to outline work plans and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority
  • Review status reports prepared by design personnel and modify schedules and plans as required
