Company mission

We are a conservation charity dedicated to the experience, protection and repair of wild places. Alongside communities nationwide, we connect people with wild places, campaign to protect those places, and restore and rewild land for the common good. The John Muir Trust stewards wild land on the west coast of Scotland including Ben Nevis, areas of Skye, Knoydart and Sutherland, as well as East Schiehallion (Perthshire), the Scottish Borders, and Glenridding Common (Lake District).Collaborating with local partners, we work towards landscape-scale restoration of natural processes; the expansion of native woodlands, the nurturing of rare mountain plants, and on footpath repair through some of the country's wildest places. The Trust campaigns to protect wild places wherever needed and advocates for policy changes that benefit all life - plants, animals and humans. We support natural climate solutions such as carbon capture. Through the John Muir Award, we inspire and encourage people from all walks of life to enjoy, connect and care for wild nature and to get involved in direct, practical action to benefit themselves and their environment. Almost 390,000 people have completed their John Muir Award to date.
